INTRODUCTION
We are group of young professionals who came up with the communication and entertainment strategies to empower, inform and educate children, youth and the less fortunate/marginalized people in society. They are enlightened on how to live, learn, interact and entertain themselves by knowing what they are and what they hold in society. Ours is to help them know their potential through volunteering.
Our mission and vision:
To turn a youth to a more valuable capable, active young member of the society to fully be aware of his or her potential and use it for the purpose of the future generation.by “Zooming in life" through volunteering .
Waltz is a Samburu word which means "We all try to zoom in life." It was coined to encourage and help the Youth, children, people affected by HIV/AIDS and OVC know their potential and use it in the future for their positive survival.
Waltz Project operates from Waltz Center located along Ole Odume road about 6kms from city center (Nairobi). Waltz center serves the needs of youth, children, people living with HIV/AIDS, OVC, displaced people because of post election violence, manage Orphanages, runs a youth counseling show, empower youth and does volunteering work within the different areas through group therapy and income generating activities. The project emanated from Waltz Youth Show Project (WYSP) which was started in 1990 by late Missionary Antonio Walt, a counseling Missionary of Miami (USA) stationed at Kiserian (Ole Kajiado), to serve people living in the slums of Kibera, Ongata, Rongai and the area surrounding Nairobi. Dr. Walt was convinced that the best way to respond to the Youth/Children's needs was to start a community Youth-based care (YBC) program to cater for them. His strategy included training volunteers from the community to serve fellow community members within Kibera slums in Nairobi through home visits and referral to established schools and other facilities for their survival. Currently we are being involved in many other projects on the same in Uganda and Tanzania. His strategy included training volunteers from the community to serve fellow community members within Kibera slums in
Nairobi through home visits and referral to established schools and other facilities for their survival. He then started a youth counseling show with then a young boy Mr. john P.Mugabe with the help of the government of Kenya in late 90’s .We started international volunteering with partnership with other organization in 2000 and have grown to be one of
the leading volunteering organization based in Kenya thus managing to support our own Children’s home, Rescue Centre’s, pay fee for the vulnerable children/youth among us and start income generating activities for OVC’s.Due to high immorality bad governance and poverty among the youth, we came up with the idea of a one-hour radio show once a week. The show highlights the problems and dangers the youth face. In addition, it highlights the ways to solve these hurdles. The youths are given advice and counselling during the show. The show organizers and counselors usually visit various youth centers discussing issues affecting them. |

Currently we are involved empowering and promoting the economic and social status of the orphaned and disadvantaged young people via volunteering and internship programs in Different parts of the three countries, assisting and helping the the orphaned and vulnerable children and people especially women under Waltz Centre Projects.Waltz Centre Projects is a program of the Ushirika communities in Eastern Africa, a lay community organization founded in 1990.Ushirika community is built upon the model of the first modern communities and has the major aim of sharing in material and social aspects of life that binds us to work towards the empowerment of the marginalized in society. One major concern of the Waltz Volunteers has been the ever increasing number of children on the streets. It is currently estimated that there are over 60,000 children in the streets of Nairobi. In response Waltz Volunteers came up to cater for the needs of street children and youths around Nairobi and other parts of Kenya,Uganda and Tanzania.Waltz is an organization that involves the whole community promoting the welfare of children and young people. We work directly with the parents or relatives of the children to empower them to cater for the basic needs of the families.
Waltz Organization empowers an individual child to become a responsible and acceptable person in the society.
VALUE: We uphold courage, honesty and integrity.
We aim at rehabilitation care and protection of street children and other vulnerable minors.
